Question thing

11 min read
  • Listening to: Sounds of moaning girls on the internet because I'm lonely
  • Reading: Not currently doing any books but for those who are into early depiction of horror elements through words I can only recommend the "king in yellow". My alltime favorite book!
  • Watching: Loads of youtube. Anime from time too time and now and again a good movie. "Holy motors" blew my philosophical mind and next up on my list is "Ong-Bak".
  • Playing: Borderlands 2. Im just waiting for borderlands 3 and cyberpunk 2077
  • Eating: Loads of fruits and I dont know what they are called in english but "Frühlingsrollen". Spring roles baby, all the way!
  • Drinking: Water! I copied this from Jeshua but I can only agree. I used to drink loads of unhealthy shizzle like energy drinks, as lazy people do, but water became my life!
Thank you JeshuaMorbus for the tag. Seems like an interesting thing for those who are interested.

Lets go then:
1) Favourite musical genre?

Music is my life. But with great interested for the art of music, comes a lot of digging through all kinds of genres. I'd say most of my favourite tracks are from the genre of electronic music. I used to do a lot dubstep, but alan walkers music got so overused and abused by popularity, that it kind of ruined most modern eletronic music for me. I still love "bullet train" by stephen schwarz however as well as "Veorra" and the music of "the NEF project". What also catches my attention is when somebody has a unique and beautiful voice, and they use it for the right genre and in combination with the right music. Most notibly "two feet" and his electro swing, ragn'bone man and his blues as well as Jacob Banks. And there is only one rapper i cant get enough of, as edubble is one of the people that got me over my depression. Sadly he passed away in 2017, but his rap will live on!

2) What's your usual favourite place?

Probably my own room. Loneliness is one thing you dont really have to care for, when you arent suffering from any depression. So thats not holding me back from my room anymore. Dont get me wrong, nothing beats some fresh air, but my room is where all my passionate projects start and end. I take huge pride in my art. A not so usual place would be the city of "Trogir" in croatia. We went there for class trip, and we decided that this would be our next class meet-up point.

3) When you see your hands, what do you see?

The snatcher from bloodborne. I'm super skinny and tall, and my hands are also skinny and long. So either pale boogieman will do. Snatcher from bloodborne, rake, slenderman, whatever!
If we are doing philosophical talk, I just simply would see a hand. I do draw hands quite a lot, with different hand signs you can express A LOT of different things. Take the shaka, high five or okay gestures for nowadays gestures and if we become more invested into philosophy and history, take for example jesus hand gesture of benediction. You can hint to a lot of different things with just the hands. If I just look at both my hands I would probably reflect back at all the things that I achieved, maybe at the progress I did with my art.

4) What's your most common fear?

Dying early. I already believe that the 80 years average life span wont be enough to accomplish everything that I dream about, and the thought of dying too early absolutely kills me, which is not good. You never know what can happen. Life in on itself is simply a survival game. And every now and again another person cant make it past a certain point. And who knows if you are one of those, that dies early. Of course with that comes a huge fear of cancer, because cancer is unbeatable to a certain extend, and it has a good chance of ending lifes. There is simply too much, that i still want to do, before passing away.

5) Fire, water, air or earth? What's your choice?

In our world fire has no practical use honestly, other than distruction. But im not a villanous mind. I see far more practical use in water or earth abilities so I'd go with either one of those! Lets take a burning house as an example. You are stuck in there with 2 children. What would fire ability do for you and those children in that situation? Absolutely nothing! However with earth abilities you could not just keep yourself and those children safe from the fire, but you can also protect yourself and those children from rubble falling down from above! With water you could help extinguish the fire obviously!

6) What do you believe is your symbol? What drawing / letter / symbol could sum most of you?

Id say, as an artist my own art does a good job at that. Not my old art, since I got over my depression in march, but my latest works. I'm a very chaotic mind. When I take a prompt and I want to draw something for that prompt, one object wont do the job for me. Lets imagine that someone would want me to draw something about love, I cant just draw a single heart and call it a day, when I think about love a lot more stuff happens in my brain. And so in the end I would cover an entire page with loads of vision about cette prompt, that overlap each other. Most likely, there is a skull in there, telling you, that love is onely undone by death, the face of a woman, because I love women, maybe she is crying because love can hurt, and maybe even an angry expression somewhere because false love can lead to regret, and even worse things like abuse. In my opinion every word and every object can be connected to more than just one symbol. Same goes for me. Multiple words describe myself, and my story, and I like to connect myself with multiple symbols.

Old german letters are also very nice!

7) Tell me your last night dream.

Oh no, where do I even start? You should know yourself, that you cant just start a story midway through, Jeshua! But I guess I can summarize the story in on itself. Its kind of a sci-fi, fantasy, thriller, slice of life, Pg 18 story. It has 2 protagonists, called "KiDz" and "ScareCrow", and thei're both freestylers and punks living in the ghetto of a huge city. They arent completely inside of the ghetto. ScareCrow comes from a farm outside of the city and KiDz lives in a relatively friendly part of the city, in an appartment. But they made the ghetto their go to place, as thats where they participate in shady business. And thats really what the story is about. How they survive in this huge ecosystem. Loads of conflict with the law, and I also dont hold back from touching very controversial topics throughout, like race and sexuality. It also includes action, but most of the story is about character development and talking about different lifestyles and interactions. The fantasy elemt comes in when talking about race, as the city is absolutely massive, and its not just black and white people, but the races consist of different creatures. You have half animal, humans, elves, boogiemans, fairies, orcs, the list goes on. And when you take all of them as races living next to each other, you can imagine where the conflict starts. You have one boogieman attack an angel, and suddenly everyone holds prejudice against the boogiemen. You can also have mixed races. KiDz is half elven and half boogieman. ScareCrow is half angel half boogieman.

8) Favourite dish?

Frühlingsrollen. Spring roles, AY!

9) Do you have a real life friend?

I have loads of friends that I'm really happy with. Two guys, they are brothers, both able to kill you with their brains. They are super intelligent. A kick-ass kung fu fighting korean dude, a radical russian, who is alaways on the go exploring something. He makes indiana jones look cute. A hyperactive german dude, a ginger punk who is terrifyingly well educated in everything bomb and weapon related, a capitalist albanian dude, a russian dude who doesnt like taking weed anymore, and a guy we like to call "silent water" as he never shows any kind of emotion. Those are the ones that I can think of!

10) What's your favourite fantasy creature?

"Animus bonae fortunae". I made her up as a ghostly creature for my other story. She is a spirit that only reveals herself infront of adventurers with a kind heart, who got lost on the wrong track. She proceeds to show them the right way, and within my story saved the lifes of my protagonists.

11) If you could transform in another thing / creature / animal / plant / whatever what would you choose?

I would want to transform into a honey badger just to be able to really not give a fuck anymore.

12) When was the last time you had time for yourself?

I'm having time for myself right now, most likely for another week or so.

Oh god... I dont know what to ask...
These questions are going to be super weird... i can see it coming, its not gonna be something for everyone...
My questions:

1) Your most fucked up thought? It doesnt need to be gory, or bloody. It can also be bizarre or downright weird... you know, fucked up!
2) If you could completely redesign our world... what would you change, add, replace or get rid of? Are there any particular rules for your world? Just make something up!
3) You are a filmmaker. How would you portray the element of "horror" in your craft?
4) I need to add something generic for the sake of something generic, so what is your favorite color, and what does that color mean to you?
5) Tattoos were meant to be a privilge to humans. What would be your first tattoo, and what does it mean too you?
6) Is there something you find oddly satisfying?
7) You have a magpie sitting inside an old rusty bird cage, a crowbar next to it, a string seemingly getting cut by an old rusty scissor, a human skull within an opened iron safe and a rose on top of the safe, all forming one image. How do you interpret the image?
8) Curiosity kills. What would be your cause of death?
9) You can focus your entire life into one project. What would your project be?
10) What do you think, makes a good character?
11) You can invent whatever irrelogical thing you want. What would be your invention?
12) In your eyes, what makes a moment tense? What do you think a situation needs to build up tension?!

I dont think any of these random tags would be willing to take part in this... BUT LETS GO:

Comment and I'll:

• Tell you something I learned about you by looking at your dA page for 20 seconds. I'll probably take a very deep look, the curious person I am, to get a way better impression of what dear commenter is about
• Tell you a colour you remind me of. I'll even give an explanation to why you remind me of that colour.... unless an explanation would be completely unnecessary
• Tell you what element I believe you belong to (e.g. burning hot fire, darkness of the abyss, storming water, shockingly strong electricity etc.).
• Tell you what mind blowing, or just beautiful creature of our earth or mythology you remind me of.
• Ask you a pure question of great curiosity, and you shall be forced to answer.
• Tell you something I like about you or your art, or what you can do better... in my opinion. Sry, but I'm all about that constructive criticism.
• Tell you what food/ flavour/smell you remind me of, or you could remind me of, if we were to know each other. Meaning that I would come up with something that would resemble your personality.
• Tell you to do this in your journal too, if you haven't already. Just change it up like I did, so the teacher wont notice you copy pasted it.

Maybe in the future, some random stranger will stumble across this meme, commenting out of pure interest, to what my genius mind has to offer.

Comment Meme!

8 min read
So... I decided to do the comment meme posted on the 'project comment' group. It is a GREAT group. You basically give comments to receive some. It is all about giving longer comments or constructive criticism on other peoples artwork, instead of just a simple 'nice' or 'gj'. I can only recommend this group, check it out: projectcomment.deviantart.com/
I'm also not necessarily doing this for the fact, that you can win potential prices. I just like the concept, and I got some spare time to waste. Instead of looking at random posts on 9gag wasting my time I could far rather do this, right?

Lets start:

1. When did you start commenting on artwork, and why?
I started probably a month after I began being active on dA. I simply had fun writing constructive criticism, and being able to give some tips and comments to others of things I learned as an artist. And it feels great, and INCREDIBLY satisfying if they reply with a comment showing their gratitude, and how happy they are that someone actually puts some effort into giving his opinion. That alone makes it worth it. At the end of february I also started to give critiques from time to time.

2. What kind of art do you like to comment on?

All kinds of art. It doesn't really matter. The art needs to have a lot of things you can address. Obviously, if someone only draws a circle its too simple to really address. Weird fetish art is also something I want to avoid. But whether its digital, traditional art doesnt matter, as well as the mediums used. Of course. Art where ink is used hits my weak spot. Since its the medium of my choice I have a lot of experience with it^

3. Nowadays, do you often +fav or comment, and why?

Yes. Quite a lot. Favourite to me counts like a 'thumbs up' on youtube or facebook. I simply show, that I like something. And I comment a lot for the same reasons I addressed on the first 2 questions. Either to help out, give tips or feedback or to give very long constructive criticism. I also browse a lot through the 'undiscovered' and 'newest' section. On these you can also stumble across a lot of newbies too dA. And you want to give a warm welcome to these people, right??

4. What motivates you to comment? Can you name three things, minimum?

My motivations are:
1) Practising to write longer and more complex texts with a language, that isn't my native language. Since writing is a passion of mine, it does help out a lot.
2) Hoping, that people learn, that they themselves can comment a lot. Especially some skilled artists are very emotionless. They get so much feedback, they start to not care about it. They just draw for commissions. They could help out a lot of beginners with the experience they gained. And that also counts for lesser known artists. I hope that others give just as much feedback, as I do^
3) Getting to know other artists. If it wasn't for the fact that I comment a lot, I probably wouldn't have gotten to know some of my friends on dA. And it makes me happy. Because other artists can be really interesting to know. Being able to share thoughts is awesome. And they can help you improve as well. Sometimes they can spot flaws on your art better than you can. That's for example how I found out about 'outlining edges' which is now a key technique I use for my style.

5. What is difficult about commenting? What do you usually do about it?

Really, its just vocabulary and grammar for someone, who isn't a native english speaker. I follow a certain pattern of key aspects I address one after the other, making the structure of my comments simple. But sometimes I do not know how to explain certain things because of words missing in my vocabulary or because a sentence looks strange grammar wise. And than there are the casual mistakes you create by writing too fast with your keyboard like 'your and you're' or 'their and they're'

6. What is a constructive comment, in your opinion?
And at this point it gets interesting. Now... what I think constructive comment CAN mean, is simply 'feedback'. And feedback is to correct. Question number 7 gets difficult however, especially with my mind set. Because remember. I believe constructive comment means 'feedback'

7. Is there a difference between a constructive comment and a critique? If so, what is this difference?
The problem I face with this question is the word 'comment'. Because a comment can be either critique or feedback. The second problem I face is, that I like to INCLUDE feedback whilst writing constructive criticism. Now, where is the difference between critique and feedback/ constructive comment? Critique is to 'judge' and 'fault'. Something leaders or bosses like to often do. Feedback is to 'correct'. And I like to do both when writing constructive criticism: 'judge and fault' but also 'correct'.

8. How often do you think you comment constructively and post critiques?
I'm not good at guessing. But I'm taking at least 1 hour a day to browse, and enjoy others artworks. Obviously, I'm not writing a comment under each artwork I stumble across.

9. Do you use a specific technique when you comment? (e.g. sandwich method)
Yes. I already addressed that I do follow a pattern.
I first go over the basics, like anatomy, shading work, line work, etc.
And afterwards I address the three, in my opinion, most important factors to determine how good a certain artwork is:
1) Can it tell a story? Is it memorable?
2) Background
3) Colour theory and special effects

10. What kind of comments do you like to receive? (e.g. constructive, critique, 'normal')
I like to receive comments I can answer too. How do you answer too 'cool' or 'nice'? With a 'thanks', i guess. The reason I like to receive longer comments, is because you can start a longer conversation. If the person addresses certain things its easier for you to talk about it, and conversations with people of similar interests can feel good^

11. Do you have any comment expectations regarding your artwork? (e.g. tips for improvement, likes and dislikes, etc.)
Really not. That might just be, because I'm still too unknown to receive a lot of comments. That might change in the future...

12. Do you have any pet peeves with the comments you receive, and the comments you give?
No, I'm a really open person and ready for all kinds of comments. In my opinion, even hate can be helpful as long as the person addresses what they hate about your artwork. It is also important to accept all kinds of comments, in the end, everyone has a right for their own mind set as long as they don't start to insult or harass.

13. In all honesty, when you comment, would you like to receive a comment back?
Yes. I do want to see, that the artist cares about your feedback or criticism. Of course, some simply can't instantly reply, because they have grown a massive fan base around their art.

14. Do you have any tips and suggestions for new commenters and artists looking for feedback?
If they are looking for feedback, especially the 'project comment' group can be a huge help. You can learn to give constructive comments and you can receive some in return!

15. Ask one question about comments you would like your tagged people to answer!
I can't really think of anyone to tag, really
Maybe in the future :'/
But I'm still gonna leave this question here, for others who maybe stumble across this thread to answer: What on the artwork drives you, to write a comment?

[Edited 13th of March 2017]
Hello dear visitor... its difficult for me to explain this properly since I'm still learning to use other languages effectively, but I want to help other artist. They can be newbies or very experienced ones, it doesn't matter. There is one thing I'm really good at, and while I'm not that skilled with my hands yet, and with creating my own art, I have a lot of knowledge about art as a topic in general. And I love giving others my honest words/ opinions about their art. To make that short, writing critiques!
What I want to get at is, if you want to have someone take a look at one of your artworks, or if you want me to take a look at your gallery and choose random deviations, and give my opinion, I will try my best in my free time.
Of course, there are certain rules and limits to what I can do:
-If you want me to look at an artwork, please give me a link to your piece, either in the comments box on my page or in the comments on one of my drawings. Or simply let me know if I should take a look at your gallery!
-I don't want to get spammed by one person over and over again with various different artworks in too short of a time. I don't have unlimited time and its just fair, if other artists can get some attention too. I also still want to spend time on the 'undiscovered' and 'newest' pages, to help out artists who won't just randomly stumble across my page!
-At some point in the future, with more and more people visiting my page, it might get difficult for me to keep up and not everyone might grab my attention. I'm already apologizing!

Now here is the real important stuff, especially for younger artists:
-I'm incredibly honest, and wont hesitate with my words. Of course, I wont swear, lets not exaggerate. I'm trying to keep it formal, to my best of knowledge about the english language. What I want to get at is, that many artists have gotten the wrong idea, and called me mean and 'aggressive', simply because they couldn't accept harsh critique and because they were used to only getting nice comments from other people of the same fandom. So if you request me, to look at one of your artworks or your gallery, don't expect me to go easy on you!

I'm looking forward to some great artworks^
